Projects Manager
I became involved in basketball in the early 90’s when my son Luke started playing. After seeing a need for volunteers I trained as a score table official, referee and coach. Within a short time I started helping with registrations and competitions and in 2004 I left my full-time job in the ATO to become Northside Wizards first part-time employee.
Since that time the Association has seen massive growth – from less than 600 players in 2003 to almost 4000 today. Fortunately, there have been many improvements during that time, from manual registrations and preparation of game draws to online registrations and competition management systems. There have been some amazing moments during that time, the most exciting one being Wizards finally getting a home of our own – the Northside Indoor Sports Centre, which opened in October 2020.
In early 2022 I decided to step aside from the General Manager role to a part-time Projects role to enable a better work/life balance. In my current position of Special Projects Manager, I have responsibility for tasks such as Finance, IT and administration of the Junior Representative Program. My work days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Basketball has been and continues to be a family affair for me, with most members of my family involved in one way or another over the past 20 years. I love our #WizFam and the positive difference we make in the community.

Operations Manager
I was born in Townsville and moved to Brisbane when I was nine years old. I started playing basketball when I was five and completed my junior basketball years at Brisbane Basketball. After I graduated, I went across to North Carolina to play D2 Basketball for a small school outside of Ashville (Brevard College).
My favourite basketball to watch is US college basketball and WNBL and I would love to see a return of a WNBL team to Brisbane.
After living in the US for some years, I returned to Brisbane and got involved in the social sporting environment, before being approached by Northside Wizards to come on board in the new role of Operations Manager.
My day-to-day role involves overseeing the operational aspects of Northside Wizards including Junior & Senior Domestic Competitions, Referees & Officials, Marketing & Events, and Facilities Management.

Competitions Administrator
I grew up in the Brisbane basketball system having played for BBI all through schooling. After spending years coaching and refereeing at basketball stadiums and schools, I met some of the Wizard’s staff who encouraged me to become involved in the venue side of basketball. My draw to basketball has always been the atmosphere at competitions and seeing people come together to help make something great. I don’t have a favourite team but my favourite basketball to watch is the WNBL.
My role consists of internal and external venue bookings along with the maintenance of the Northside Indoor Sports Complex.
Shantelle Vance
Competition Manager
I born and raised on the Mornington Peninsula before moving to country Vic and then California, and moving back to Australia in 2011.
I got involved as a volunteer when my kids first started playing in U8’s and have been actively involved as a coach, team manager or club committee and assisted in various roles at associations over the years.
After we moved to QLD, I got involved as a volunteer quickly so when the position opened for Competitions Manager it was a great opportunity to become even more involved in community sport. I am passionate about community sport for our youth
Favourite teams are Townsville Fire and Golden State and I also love watching college games.
I am responsible for creating domestic competitions and assisting players and teams with their registrations.
Brent Wood
Participation Officer
I was born in Blacktown in the Western Suburbs of Sydney,
I love basketball because it’s a fast-paced game, where everyone is involved in every play. I like the camaraderie that comes from watching everyone play their part to achieve the team’s goals. Watching and being a part of a group of individuals come together as a team by the season’s end.
I’ve been a Boston Celtics supporter since 88 and my favourite players are Larry Bird & Robert Parish
My official journey at Wizards began over 3.5 years ago after several years of volunteering and running clubs within Wizards.
As the coordinator of the Aussie Hoops Wizkids Program, I have the best role in the organisation, I get to be there at the very beginning of a juniors basketball journey. When I receive great feedback from parents telling me their kids have found the love for the game, it’s a pretty great feeling. Having the opportunity and watching the juniors progress all the way through Aussie Hoops, Club, Junior rep and eventually into senior rep basketball.
I also coordinate the Wizards school programs and have forged some great partnerships with Schools and introduced the game to a whole new group of Juniors.
A standard day at Wizards for me always starts with a GIANT coffee.
Depending on the time of year I can start are early as 6am working with school programs, from there I will head into the office and as part if my role, I help align potential Wizards with a club in our competition. I spend a fair bit of time managing a number of our coaches to make sure they have all the equipment and tools to run multiple programs across Aussie Hoops Wizkids and School and we are always looking for ways we can improve our experience.
In the afternoon I jump on court to cover the Aussie Hoops Wizkids program, jump into a group development session or head back to school to continue working on their program.
By the time night rolls around, I can generally be found on the court with either a rep team or junior club team. Calling One More or Lets Go. Always big days, but wouldn’t have it any other way

I like basketball because of many reasons. It’s a great sport to watch- it’s indoors, fast scoring, physical, technical, it’s great to see amazing athletes compete against each other. I love coaching basketball. It can be very rewarding watching young people develop and succeed.
My favorite NBA team : the Philadelphia 76’s – players now are Tyrese Maxey, past players – Dr J, Larry Bird
I came to the Wizards due to an amazing and exciting job opportunity.
The excitement around the job is, that I’ve always enjoyed developing club/association coaches and players as they are the foundation of success for associations.

My favourite Basketball team is Olympiacos BC (Greek League/Euroleague) Melbourne United, Northside Wizards and the Chicago Bulls!
My favourite active player is Giannis the Greek Freak.
I came to work at Northside Wizards in 2020 when I reached out looking for potential roles within the association and have been with Wizards as a Duty Manager for 4 years.
I love working at Wizards as it is a great association with amazing staff and members. It’s a busy association that is always growing and is fun.
I take care of the facility, and make sure that our game nights run smoothly.
